Maybe its something in the water?

This posting is inspired by タンク's very own on a similar topic.

I've been hard at work on my latest piece, Unfadeable. The piece has me by my throat (in a good way). I am completely obsessed and gripped by how incredibly awesome it is. I've never written anything like it before. Here are some of the new things I'm trying:

- The orchestration is unique in that it is very mid-rangey and treble heavy for a good portion of the piece. The idea here is to see if I can employ rudimentary equal loudness curve concepts into the orchestration. I have a feeling it will annoy many. F'em.

- There are lots of simultaneous consonances occuring which, when combined, form these hyper-consonant structures that have almost a spectral quality. 'Almost' is the operative word here.

- I am using lots of implied meters and cross rhtyhms with accents and tuplets to give it a sort of hornet's next flavor (the sound does sting you real good).

- There is a passage for 6 violin soli that will absolutely kill em dead (performers, conductor, myself after I get flack from the previous two about the writing, the audience, critics, your mom, her ugly cousin, etc.) Again, f'em.

I am inspired to see that タンク is enjoying his new piece, Hyper Lassus too. Come to think about it, I can't think of a time when I have been so prolific. Unfadeable is the fourth piece I have written this year alone (and it is only May). Usually, I am lucky if I even write that many pieces in one year. Total, I have over 50min worth of music written this year alone and all the pieces are my best. Cadaver, Caricatures, Ceiling Unlimited and Unfadeable are all pieces I am super pleased with and proud of.

I'd mention 睦史's prolific nature, but that is a given. In fact, I'd only write if he wrote LESS than 4 pieces in one week! タンク and I have been hanging out with him a lot lately. Perhaps his 日本人 work ethic is rubbing off on us? Or, maybe it is something in the B-town water? I think it is the weight of elimination removed and the sense of a new chapter in TheNewStyle.

Ok, American Idol time.
