Well I'll be damned - I do like Schoenberg

Consider this a sort of "Part 2" to yesterday's post.

I didn't feel like waking up today. My body feels good now that I am back in the habit of working it out. But, I am just feeling a bit, em, exhausted. It is tough to explain. I don't feel tired. Nor am I mentally spent. I feel as if I need to just...rest. Make any sense? Well, if it doesn't to you don't feel bad. It doesn't to me either. Anywho...

I had choice programming time with the jv3k today. I told it that I would run complicated routines to test it's system integrity. We examined Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand. I've never used it in a lesson before. As I said in my previous post, this dog is trying to learn new tricks. Using Ravel, that isn't too new. Using this piece, however, is so I suppose it is a small step. We also did an impromptu comparison of this concerto to his Piano Concerto in G Major. Talks of the "anti-cadenza" were had and it ended up being quite packed with content. Despite feeling the need to rest I didn't feel as if I was on a trip to Malaise-ia, which is usually how I've been feeling these few months. If fact, I felt quite sharp today and was especially concise in my explications of music. I usually record my sessions with jv3k and other students. Sadly, I didn't hit record for most of this one. I still am kicking myself for that.

We did a little programming with the Schoenberg and, indeed, I like Schoenberg. I happen to have a reduction of the 3rd movement and it is especially inspiring as the movement really does nothing except move from chord to chord slowly. jv3k responded with an ALERT gesture confirming the results of the programming routine.

Believe it or not blog I have actually been nibbling away some music. I'll hold my cards and won't disclose what the piece is. I'll only say that it is more music than I've written in the past year.

Other news:
  • Wifer has challenged my to rewrite Candle in the Wind so as to reflect on the passing of Anna Nicole Smith. This is a challenge that has caused lots of giggles.
  • Wario Ware is a great game.
  • Caricatures performance on Tuesday. Will blog (hopefully with pics!)
It is fun to talk to you again, blog.
