You're not fired
I got my official retention letter today. In case you are unaware of the tenure-track process, here is how I sum it up.
I keep a scrapbook called a dossier. Said dossier is handed in to those Profs. who sit at the Big Prof. table and discuss whether or not I've been a good boy and can be allowed to dine with them another year. If I am so granted this wonderful opportunity, I am told so in a letter of retention which states why I am allowed to stay and what I should be focusing on in order not to be told to excuse myself from the table. This will happen for a total of six years (I think) and then at the end it is determined whether or not I am worthy to move to the Big Prof. table as an Associate Professor. I am a bit aways from that. Right now, I focus on doing my job and making sure the Big Profs. don't let me go.
I was kindly reminded in my letter that I need to be writing music too. Hmm... Write music or risk the ire of the Big Profs.? This one seems like a no brainer to me.
Inc. concert on Tuesday. Performance of a work which is, believe it or not, two years old. Man, time flies.
Still feeling focused today despite an odd lesson with the Geiger Counter. I am working on comprehensive exams for my composition students in the areas of Analysis, Counterpoint and Orchestration. The last of these I am hoping to beta test on the jv3k. It isn't aware of this but it does have a scripting routing which involves the scanning of this blog so I am guessing it is aware now. Don't go HAL on me, jv3k!
