Trading beans is fun - unless you are an ass about it.
Yesterday was Memorial Day. I had jv3k, nederlands, and magicjohnsonmadness over (along with their respective others). I grilled up plenty of Costco burgers and special chicken, basil, and mozzarella sausages (quite yummy). Additionally, we shared thoughts on the similarities and differences of transcription and arranging. I am attempting more and more to engage my students in more direct questions - it helps me to refine my questioning technique. Their responses vary. Some act as if they don't understand the question and bristle with incredulity. Others attack the question itself. I can say confidently that yesterday I got a mix of these two responses tempered with patience (I am their teacher, after all).
After light discussion, the wifer and I schooled the pack on how to play Bohnanza, a delightful card game involving the trading of various types of beans. This game is all about diplomacy, negotiation, and skillful deal making. As the post suggests, the game is fun unless there are those who take it to far. I can't say for sure that someone took the game too far last night, but certainly there were some tense moments. Here are a few pics:

I like to talk.

A lot.
