Gigantor!
I'm finished with Gigantor!, my latest work for band (with a lot of clarinets). How does one begin to describe a work called Gigantor!? Well, how's this:
When he was but a young, gentle giant, others used to command Gigantor to act his age and not his shoe size. For normal adolescents, this admonishment is one which begs for them to exhibit maturity. For Gigantor, this was the opposite. You see, Gigantor's shoe size was always at least three digits bigger than his age until he was thirteen. This contradiction is but one of many that hounded Gigantor throughout his youth. Despite his size, Gigantor played no football in school (it was too obvious). Instead, Gigantor, lover of music, played bass clarinet in his junior high school band (contrabassoon was not available). The piece will be neato. I actually enjoyed writing for band this time around (as opposed to my last piece for band - I barf in my mouth just thinking about it!). I wouldn't mind writing another band piece - one that is more my hardcore-over-the-top and less my big-mommas-house-over-the-top.
Nowadays, Gigantor finds himself enamored by music which is massive. He is especially fond of the music of a former giant, Johannes Brahms, and finds himself constantly air-conducting the opening to Brahm's First Symphony. Still the biggest music geek, Gigantor is indeed a contradiction in terms.
