So I write fast - suck it!

I'm not a good example for my composition students. They agonize over each note written. They struggle to get single phrases to work within a larger piece. I continually push them and tell them it's not enough. Problem is: I write pretty fast. I'll finally acknowledge this out loud. I agonize over notes. It's just that my agony lasts three minutes to three days - not three weeks to three months!

I sent off the first movement of my Clarinet Concerto today to the performers. Though it certainly started out wicked-hella rough, it ended up being a killer piece. I anticipate three more movements. Maybe I'll finish them all in the next ten minutes.
